Cairngorm Ski Club Coaching Programme 2019/20
We have been busy putting together a fantastic and exciting coaching programme for 2019/20! We have been liaising closely with the team at Cairngorm Mountain to ensure we can deliver our core on-snow training throughout the season.
We have listened to trainee and parent feedback and talked to the team at SnowSport Scotland – the results of which have formed the backbone of what we will deliver for our members, trainees and young athletes over the next 12 months in line with our Long Term Athlete Development Plan
Our coaches will be providing our race-training programme and all-round ski performance and skills development (incorporating freestyle).
Ski racing and training remains at the heart of our club and is a great foundation for all skiing disciplines. With our PRO-SKI programme we will also offer pathways to professional career development in snow sports with opportunities to train and compete in Freestyle (Park & Pipe); Freeride; Skier Cross with alignment and participation to Instructor and Coaching national bodies.
Fun and enjoyment remain the core values for all our programmes in line with our long term development plan.
Our Bairn’s programme (ages 8-12) is designed to develop talented young skiers full of enthusiasm for moving forward in their skiing to the senior programmes and discipline of their choice. We are lucky to have Amanda Shepherd returning who will be coaching our Bairn’s and Schools Programmes along with Jules Jennings and Donald Musk. We believe that skills development at an early age is essential and our senior coaching team will be closely involved in the Bairn’s development.
Some of you may remember the excellent coaching sessions delivered by Dave Jacobs last season and we are fortunate that he will be joining us as a senior member of our coaching team to deliver our full programme for all age groups as well as our 12-16 year old athletes. Dave will be supported by Gary Todd both very experienced level 3 Alpine Race coaches.
Coach and Instructor development is important to us and we are hoping to encourage our coaches to participate in CPD and bring on young coaches to L1/L2, this will be led by Bruce Cranston and Dave Jacobs.
Our senior alpine squad (16+) will continue to be led by Craig Lamont on Saturday’s, who will also be offering open-course sessions on Sunday’s from 16+ to Masters level as part of Craig’s Cairngorm Training Facility.
Freeride options will be overseen by David Jacobs and delivered by Donald Musk, Kyle Beattie and Roddy Cramilton. We are planning to run a home freestyle camp during the Easter Break and to source specialist coaches throughout the season.
Our adult members can participate again this year with an enhanced programme. We plan to run short 2- 4 hour morning and afternoon sessions (to fit around kids training). These will be themed to the club goals and may include an introduction to racing and course setting; basic freestyle skills; off-piste performance and avalanche awareness which will very much be led by requests from you the parents! We have a good relationship with the training team at Glenmore Lodge and we be able offer short courses from some of their senior instructors to all levels of experience.
A key pre-season event for everyone is our meet the coaches event to be held in Aviemore on the 23rd November. There we will introduce our coaching team, explain in more detail the structure of the training programmes and also run some fitness workshops and pre-season preparation. We will also provide a report on 2019 Hintertux Camp. Our club Ceilidh is on the same day in Carrbridge.
