We have now a date for the grouse beating fund raiser. It is on Saturday 26 August – a week on Saturday! If you are keen please let me know as soon as possible.
Details as below :
Once again we possibly have the opportunity to raise funds by taking part in grouse beating in August or September. Not only is this a great opportunity to raise some much needed monies for the general club fund, it’s also a chance to take part in a long-established, national tradition in a beautiful part of the country.
The Dunmaglass Estate is in Strathnairn, 35 miles from Aviemore. The day starts at 8:30 am and is expected to finish between 5pm and 6pm. It would usually involve five “drives” and walking about 7 miles on rough ground. Beaters will need to take instructions from the underkeepers and be fit enough to keep up with the beating line.
For those people who would like to take their dogs, we have been informed that we can take only about 3/4 and these dogs will need to be kept on lead ALL day. For obvious reasons the gamekeepers can only have exceptionally well trained dogs on the hill on these days.
This should be a fantastic day out, whatever the weather and it’s an opportunity to meet up and spend the day on the hill. We need about 20 volunteers, aged over 11 years and fit enough to cope with tramping through the heather.
We are still to hear back from the estate about dates but if you are interested, please can you let me know if it’s something you would consider taking part in. A yes or no would be suffice at this stage!
Hope to hear from you soon.
