Training Camps

Saturday 3rd July 2010

Dear CSC members :

As your Alpine Convenor I regret to have to make the announcement that the October 2010 FAST (Focussed Alpine Scottish Training) camp is now closed.

A number of years ago Cairngorm Ski Club were given the job of organising the FAST October camp.   It`s the Alpine Convenor`s job to put together the camp - with some cajouling and enthusisam help is at hand!  I have had 20 applications from various Clubs by the closing date, widely announced as 3rd July.  This is a superb response, possibly as a result of a considerably better deal we have found in Tignes compared to October 2009, as in 2009 we had only 9 trainees.

Our party consists of the CH group, some of whom have been on previous FAST camps and a good number of aspiring new names.  We wish them all well and hope that their skiing progresses.

FAST camps provide an opportunity for Alpine training for the Scottish CH group to

For those of you who missed out, there will be Alpine camps over Christmas and New Year (with a couple of races hopefully) and Easter (coinciding with the Scottish Childrens` Races and British Childrens` Championships) so please watch out for Snowsport Scotland and Club announcements.

Cairngorm Ski Club is the organiser of the October Camp to Tignes. The Club has offered a training package for race training for many years but it was decided a couple of years ago to amalgamate the Scottish ski clubs to give the trainees a better and more varied selection of race training camps abroad and to also help keep the cost of foreign camps as low as possible.

The clubs are as follows:
Scottish Ski Club
Aberdeen Ski Club
Gordon Skiers
Cairngorm Ski Club
Glasgow Ski Club

The October camp is organised by Cairngorm Ski club and is held in Tignes; the glacier allows a variety of pistes for training.
This camp offers a chance to work on core technique and technical skills as well as lane training.

A full programme is offered with an early rise at 6:30am followed with some warm up exercises, breakfast, then off to the funicular for the first uplift at 8am.
Trainees spend the full day on the hill and take the last train down at 3:00pm.
A quick afternoon tea to recharge the batteries, then an hour of fitness training (for example: a run around the Lake.). The coaches then offer guidance as the trainees learn to maintain their skis. After our evening meal the coaches give a debriefing of the day and show video footage taken during the day. After a very full day the trainees are grateful to go to bed at 9:00pm.

F.A.S.T endeavour to keep the cost of our race training camps between £1,500.00 & £2000 for a two week camp.this includes flights, accomodation, food, lift passes & coaching.

A Christmas/New Year camp is organised by Gordon Skiers. This is now held in France..Tignes for training then Les Houches for the Anlgo Scottish races

An Easter Camp is organised by the Scottish Ski Club. This is a race orientated camp with the British Land Children`s Championship being held in Meribel & the Scottish Courcheval races in Courcheval.
The trainees have a few days training in resort before the races ..

Aberdeen is responsible for the Summer Camp. This camp is held in Tignes. The camp is the perfect time to work on your core techniche. A full list of activities are organised for the trainees for after their skiing, for example: water jumping, mountain biking...etc!
