A very warm welcome to those new to the club and welcome back to those who have trained with us before.
After a delayed start we are good to go this weekend for all groups on the mighty SnowBadger piste at Cairngorm Mountain.
For all the latest updates please check our Facebook Page, this page can be viewed if you are a Facebook user or not. All updates will be posted there.
Given current limited snow conditions, everybody can have a long lie and we will meet at 9.30 on both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. See below for details and for our normal meeting time.
We have a great coaching team this year; For the over 16’s FIS programme we have Craig Lamont and for the Bairns we have Amanda Shepherd, Jules Jennings and Andy Burnett. For Freeski, we have the amazing Lewis McWilliam.
For the 12-16 group we did have a coach lined up for the whole season and unfortunately, their circumstances changed quite late in the day so they are now unable to coach with us. However, we have a team of excellent, experienced race coaches including Dave Jacobs, Donald Hall, Donald Musk and Bruce Cranston to work with this group.
Given Jules Jennings is now coaching I have agreed to take on organising the coaching, again, for the rest of this season with the help of the other trustees.
IMPORTANT TRAINING INFORMATION
MEETING PLACE – We will meet at the exit to the Funicular Railway. This is located on the left as you head towards the hill from the top carpark and is the door before the ticket office (signposted toilets and lift to funicular). We will meet upstairs. Space is limited and there will be no place to leave any personal effects so we recommend that all trainees get ready at their car and leave shoes etc in the car.
ATTENDANCE REGISTER – A member of the club will be taking a “register” of trainees attending each week so we know exactly who is on the hill, please ensure that you have reported to this person who should be obvious.
MEETING TIME – We need to be ready to go for 8.30 so we can be on the first uplift available. We recommend that everybody is there by 8.20 at the latest. If you are late it is your responsibility to find the group. However, every coach and I will have radios so if you approach any group we should be able to find where your group is and agree on a meeting place.
EQUIPMENT – Please ensure that all equipment fits and is in good shape prior to training (sounds like an obvious one but we have had folks turn up to find that boots don’t fit any more and spend the morning in Ski Hire).
NO HELMET – NO SKI
CLOTHING – It can be bitterly cold so please ensure all athletes are appropriately dressed for the conditions. Lots of layers.
PACKED LUNCH & BACK PACK – packed lunches (and anything else that will be required for the day) will be taken out with trainees in the morning. When conditions allow we will use the Shieling at the mid station as a base for the day and generally to eat lunch.
FINISH TIME – Training will finish between 3 and 3.30, children will be reunited with parents outside the funicular exit. It is really important that you are available to collect your child as soon as training ends.
CODE OF CONDUCT – All trainees and parents are required to sign a code of conduct, if you have not signed one already some will be available on the first day of training.
STORM DAYS – If the weather does not permit us to train on the hill we will offer training at the Lecht if they are open and we will offer Dry Land Training for all trainees.
COMMUNICATION – We will endeavour to make a decision about the following weekends training using weather forecasts on Thursday evening. The main forecasts we use are Mountain Weather Information Service and for longer-term forecasts Snow-Forecast.com. If the forecast is marginal we will delay the decision until Friday or, in a worst-case scenario, even very early Saturday or Sunday morning. Updates will be posted on the club Facebook Page.
FEEDBACK – The coaches will endeavour to speak with each parent at the end of each session to offer feedback. Please feel free to approach the coach or head coach for feedback at anytime. If you wish to discuss any other aspect of the programme or the club at anytime please also feel free to speak with either myself, any coach or any other committee member. The most important thing to us is that our trainees have fun so if there is a problem please tell us and we will do our best to fix it.
VIDEO ANALYSIS & PHOTOGRAPHY – We will again use video analysis, we propose to publish these for athletes and parents to review on youtube with links from our Facebook page and website. The videos will not be private but will be “unlisted” so you will only be able to find them if you have the link or from our channel. Also we will take photographs of athletes whilst training and those who medal at events etc.. for our own purposes and for the purposes of promoting the club. If you have any objection to any of this then please let us know by writing to email@example.com.
PARENTS ON THE HILL – It is important that parents remain on the hill during training in case of an accident or hill evacuation. For non-skiers you may wish to nominate another parent to be responsible for your own kids, that is fine so long as somebody is there and the trainee knows who.
As we are sure you are aware the club is run by volunteers and employs some of the best quality coaches. Our training programme is heavily subsidised by the fundraising activities of the club (normally to the tune of between £3,000 and £8,000 per year). In order to attract quality coaches, we need to offer them secure employment. We, therefore, operate on the basis that if we train (on snow or dry land) you pay unless prior agreement is obtained from the coaching convener (myself). We would only normally waive training fees in the event of injury or illness. If an athlete is not to attend training for any reason then it would be great if you would let us know so we are not waiting or looking out for them, however, you would still be expected to pay for the session.
If you have any queries please drop me an email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We very much look forward to welcoming all our members old and new and most importantly let’s have a great season and keep doing those snow dances!
